The Ride-Sharing Apps Available in Japan
The major four apps
Here are the four major ride-sharing apps available in Japan:
- Uber
- DiDi
- GO
- S.RIDE
There are also region-specific ride-sharing services, but these four are the main ones. Since Uber uses a global account system, if you already have an Uber account, there’s no need for a new registration
What kind of car will arrive?
You will be picked up by regular taxis affiliated with each company. Since the Japanese government does not permit ride-sharing services other than taxi companies, regular taxis will provide the transportation
If you don’t use ride-sharing services..
There’s usually a taxi pick-up area right in front of the station. It’s often near the bus area, so if you look around there, you should find taxis easily. The word ‘taxi’ is also used in Japanese, so if you’re ever unsure, you can just ask, ‘Where is the taxi?’ and you’ll be fine!
